Sustainable Classrooms For The Alta Guajira
This social and humanitarian project, which will be supervised by the Diocese of Riohacha and which has been the product of an international alliance with Fundepaz NYC and Father Fernando Echeverri, looks to amplify primary education opportunities (kindergarten to third grade) for children at the Nazareth Boarding School whom Prosowa currently supports through the Plan Padrino.
Project Alliances
Thanks to the Prosowa in New York administration, in 2016 Fundepaz NY joined our foundation’s efforts in La Guajira. Under the leadership of Father Fernando Echeverri and his board of directors in New York, Fundepaz invested in 7 eco-sustainable classrooms. The Prosowa Foundation’s donors made possible the installation of a system of solar panels and photovoltaic energy for each of the classrooms and the school’s dining room, which will provide educational opportunities for more than 210 children in Nazareth. Staff and head-of-family mothers may use these same classrooms for formal training with the support of the Comprehensive Action Department of the Caribbean Joint Army Command No. 1 under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel John Freddy Clavijo.
Location
The classrooms will be situated in the current property of the Ethno-Education Center in Nazareth, where the Prosowa Foundation has been moving forward since 2014 with humanitarian work (health; food security; art and global exposition; water delivery in the least fortunate rancherías of the area; children’s recreation) hand in hand with other national and international entities.
General Project Objectives
Satisfy the physical, emotional, and educational needs of young Wayuu girls and boys of the Alta Guajira. This project also seeks to support the efforts of the Diocese of Riohacha, which currently does not have enough space to meet the demand for children who wish to study on this campus.
Facilitate the reconciliation of family and work life by cooperating with the head-of-family mothers in the attentive care and education of their sons and daughters, offering a training schedule in the artisanal trades of the area.
